Hello from Belle!

Hello to everyone reading – my name is Belle. I will be a junior in high school next year and this is my second trip with YNIA. For my site here in Green Bay, I’m working at the NEW (North Eastern Wisconsin) Community Shelter. This was only our first day, but we already had the pleasure of a lot of hard work and the chance to talk with some amazing people. The shelter is a rehabilitation center and temporary living facility for those who have nowhere else to go. We spent most of our time doing things outside including planting flowers in the front grounds and vegetables in the gardens that will be used to feed the hungry. We spoke to Otis, a former resident and current volunteer. At one point in his life, he was homeless and addicted to drugs. He put all of his faith in God, got himself a one-way bus ticket, and spent three months in the shelter. He says it’s the reason he’s still alive and the reason he continues to dedicate his life to it today. It was very eye-opening and humbling to work there for the day. I can’t honestly wait for what we will learn over the course of the week.

  1. So proud of all of you! You show God's love in so many ways - planting flowers, trimming hedges, and especially listening to the story of another with an open heart. ❤
